Polar Shift in 2012? - The Mayan Prophecy Explored -- By Brian Wilcox Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/3676212

The ancient Mayan culture (as well as other cultures and individuals) predict great change and possible destruction in the latter half of 2012. The 2012 topic has entered mainstream culture during the last few years and will continue to be debated until the date has passed.

The most intriguing theory of the 2012 prediction is the possibility of a polar shift. Numerous 2012 researchers believe this to be the event the Mayans were warning us about.

When a polar shift happens, the magnetic poles (north and south) flip, causing a reversal. Polar shifts are not just theory, they are scientific fact. They have occurred in the past and are predicted to occur again. The last polar shift took place about one million years ago and shifts have been shown to occur approximately 750,000 years apart. It seems we're overdo.

Another ominous sign is that for the last 2,000 years our magnetic field has been steadily decreasing in intensity. Some believe this decreasing intensity to be the precursor of a shift.

What are the consequences for our planet and civilization if this event takes place?

One event we can expect is failure of the electrical grid, we would immediately be thrown back to the 19th century. Others believe we would experience a huge increase in earthquakes and volcanic activity. During the shift, the magnetic field would be weakened significantly, possibly disappearing altogether. If this happened, people would be exposed to dangerous and possibly lethal doses of radiation from the sun; at the very least, skin cancer rates would skyrocket.

What can we do to prepare and protect ourselves and our family's?

It would be beneficial to distance yourself from fault lines and volcanoes in case of geologic disturbances. In a less disastrous scenario, canned goods and survival preps could mean the difference between life and death. And, taking refuge someplace underground would help shield you from radiation. Self-sufficiency would be the key to surviving a polar shift.

In the end, no one can say with certainty what will happen in 2012. Explore the 2012 phenomena more by clicking Polar Shift 2012 [http://thepolarshift2012.com/]. Educate yourself and make up your own mind.

The Truth About the 2012 Phenomenon and the Apocalypse --- By Jimmy Barlow Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/4500565

These days, you could not say 2012 without bringing up two thoughts from the people you say it to, first thought is about that Hollywood movie about the end of the world and the second thought is yes, the apocalyptic end of the world prophecies made by the ancient Mayans that would happen on the year 2012. So, with all of this worldwide hype for it, what is The truth about the 2012 phenomenon? Seriously, if it is about something that may cause a slow and very painful death to all of humanity, you may as well pay attention, right? The prophecy was based on the Mayan Long Count Calendar stating that the end of the world is at hand and will happen two years from now on December 21, 2012, which started thousands of several versions of 2012 predictions and 2012 apocalypse topics.

However, it is a known fact that there are a lot of failed prophecies about the end of the world, and some had even gone as far back as the seventeenth century, so how is this 2012 prophecy of the Mayans any different? The answer to this is really very simple, The truth about the 2012 phenomenon is that it is a prophecy made by an ancient civilization that is known even up to now, for their astronomical and mathematical advancement as well as deeply ingrained spirituality and superstition. The ancient Mayan's Long count calendar accurately calculates the earth's current life cycle of 5,125 years and this life cycle will come to an end on Friday, 21st of December, 2012.

An evidence from the ancient Mayan civilization that supports this prophecy is a book known as Popol Vuh that tells about stories of creation of the world and of all living things; the book's inscriptions state that the world has five life cycles and the current life cycle that we live in is the fourth, the first three, being failures, were destroyed. The book also implies that our current world would be destroyed on the same day that the first three had been destroyed, with the fifth world beginning the next day after the termination of the fourth world has been completed.

There is other supporting pieces of evidence that can be found in several other ancient Mayan inscriptions and all are consistent in their statements that in 2012 the end of the world will indeed happen. There are even ancient inscriptions saying how the gods will descend from the heavens and that the skies would turn into liquid blackness. The 2012 official countdown has already been started, and until now scholars and scientists debate on the details of the prophecy made by the Mayans. So what is the truth about the 2012 phenomenon? The answer still eludes many however, but one thing is sure, two years from now, the world as we know it now, will indeed change.

2012: The Theories, The Prophecies, The Aftermath -- By Dr. Rita Louise Platinum Quality Author

The thought of the year 2012 brings to the minds of many images of gloom and doom, death and destruction, and the potential reemergence of mankind from its ashes. In the last few years there have been countless books, movies and television specials discussing what the authors believe will happen on December 21, 2012. After investigating all of the available evidence, I have come to my own conclusion as to what will happen on that highly anticipated date.

Before I jump to the punch line and tell you what I believe, let's spend a few minutes investigating some of the prophecies that have been associated with the 2012 event.. And, take a look at as some of the theories describing what is believed will happen.

The Maya created a number of different calendars to record the passage of time. One of them is called the "Calendar Round". We learned about this calendar from a book, known as the Dresden Codex. It was spared the burning frenzy of the early Christian priests in Mexico. The Calendar Round is made up of two separate calendar systems used by the Maya. The Tzolk'on or 260 day Sacred Calendar and the Haab, the 365 day vague calendar. When combined they form a new calendar that measures 52 years.

The Calendar Round can only distinguish 52 years then starts repeating itself. The Mayans needed a more refined dating method. To ensure that dates could be identified over these extended periods, the Maya devised the "Long Count" calendar. We became aware of the Long Count through the study of various stelae found in the ruins of many abandoned Mayan cities.

The Long Count identifies the number of days that have passed since the beginning of the last Great Cycle. A great Cycle has a length of 13 baktuns or 1,872,000 days (5,125.36 years). Once completed, like the odometer on your car, the calendar resets itself to 0 (zero). The accepted start date of the current Great Cycle, as proposed by Sir J. Eric S. Thompson, is August 13, 3114 BCE. By adding 1,872,000 days to August 13, 3114 BC we arrive at the date December 21, 2012 - the "end of the Mayan Calendar".

While the Mayan Calendar provides us with a date for its completion, some researchers believe that other prophecies support the end of a great cycle is fast approaching. According to the Hopi Indians, as reported by White Feather - a Hopi of the ancient Bear Clan - to a minister named David Young in 1958, these are the signs of the end times:

"The Fourth World shall end soon, and the Fifth World will begin. This the elders everywhere know. The Signs over many years have been fulfilled, and so few are left."

"This is the First Sign: We are told of the coming of the white-skinned men, like Pahana, but not living like Pahana men who took the land that was not theirs. And men who struck their enemies with thunder."

"This is the Second Sign: Our lands will see the coming of spinning wheels filled with voices. In his youth, my father saw this prophecy come true with his eyes -- the white men bringing their families in wagons across the prairies."

"This is the Third Sign: A strange beast like a buffalo but with great long horns, will overrun the land in large numbers. These White Feather saw with his eyes -- the coming of the white men's cattle."

"This is the Fourth Sign: The land will be crossed by snakes of iron."

"This is the Fifth Sign: The land shall be criss-crossed by a giant spider's web."

"This is the Sixth sign: The land shall be criss-crossed with rivers of stone that make pictures in the sun."

"This is the Seventh Sign: You will hear of the sea turning black, and many living things dying because of it."

"This is the Eight Sign: You will see many youth, who wear their hair long like my people, come and join the tribal nations, to learn their ways and wisdom."

"And this is the Ninth and Last Sign: You will hear of a dwelling-place in the heavens, above the earth, that shall fall with a great crash. It will appear as a blue star. Very soon after this, the ceremonies of my people will cease."

"These are the Signs that great destruction is coming. The world shall rock to and fro. The white man will battle against other people in other lands -- with those who possessed the first light of wisdom. There will be many columns of smoke and fire such as White Feather has seen the white man make in the deserts not far from here. Only those which come will cause disease and a great dying.

Many of my people, understanding the prophecies, shall be safe. Those who stay and live in the places of my people also shall be safe. Then there will be much to rebuild. And soon -- very soon afterward -- Pahana will return. He shall bring with him the dawn of the Fifth World. He shall plant the seeds of his wisdom in their hearts. Even now the seeds are being planted. These shall smooth the way to the Emergence into the Fifth World."

The signs, over the years, have been interpreted as follows: The First Sign is the arrival of the white man with his guns. The Second Sign is of the pioneers' covered wagons. The Third Sign is of longhorn cattle. The Fourth Sign describes the railroad tracks. The Fifth Sign is a clear image of our electric power and telephone lines. The Sixth Sign describes concrete highways and their mirage-producing effects. The Seventh Sign foretells of oil spills in the ocean. The Eighth Sign clearly indicates the "Hippy Movement" of the 1960s. The Ninth Sign was the U.S. Space Station Skylab, which fell to Earth in 1979. According to Australian eye-witnesses, it appeared to be burning blue.

The Hindu Yuga cycle has also been linked by many as supporting the December 21, 2012 date. According to Hindu Tradition, the length of all life here on earth is described as one day in the life of Brahma, the god of this universe. When Brahma awakens, the universe appears. When he sleeps, it disappears. It is said that one day in the life of Brahma lasts for 4,320,000 years.

Each day in the life of Brahma is broken down into ages or yugas. They include: the Satya Yuga, the Treta Yuga, the Dwapar Yuga and the Kali Yuga. Without going into a lot of detail regarding the math that supports these ages, it is believed that the Satya Yuga lasted for 1,728,000 years, the Treta Yuga, for 1,296,000 years and the Dwapar for 864,000 years. It is also believed that we are now in the Kali Yuga. The Kali Yuga is to last for 432,000 years. At this time, Brahma will again slumber and our world (what we know of as our universe) will disappear from existence.

Meaning "Age of Vice", the Kali Yuga is characterized by strife, discord and contention. Evil and dishonesty has replaced the truth found in the Satya Yuga. In the Hindu Text, the Vishnu Purana - thought to be written somewhere between 800 and 300BCE - we find a detailed description of the Kali Yuga. Here are a few excerpts from this document.

"The minds of men will be wholly occupied in acquiring wealth; and wealth will be spent solely on selfish gratifications. Women will follow their inclinations, and be ever fond of pleasure. Men will fix their desires upon riches, even though dishonestly acquired."

"The kings of Kali Yuga will be addicted to corruption and will seize the property of their subjects. Then property and wealth alone will confer rank; falsehood will be the only means of success. Corruption will be the universal means of subsistence."

"Princes, instead of protecting, will plunder their subjects; and, under the pretext of levying customs, will rob merchants of their property. In the Kali age everyone who has cars and elephants and steeds will be a Rj: everyone who is feeble will be a slave."

Based on society today, it seems as if we are well into the energy dynamics of the Kali Yuga.

Prophecies derived from the Book of Revelation in the Bible have also provided ammunition to the 2012 debate. Talk about Earth changes, the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the Anti-Christ have added fuel to the fire of this already hot debate.

A number of theories have emerged to explain what will happen at the end of the Mayan calendar. The outcome (according to supporters) fall into two major camps. These camps are as different from each other as day and night. The most popular theories promoted are apocalyptic in nature. They foretell of dramatic events which will virtually wipe mankind off of the face of the earth. If I had to pick from these scenarios, the most likely outcome would be that we would blow ourselves up. Nuclear weapons, a troubled economy and the growing threat of terrorism, all add to the stress and pressure governments face. It only requires one badly played card before we are all potentially toast.

Other popular theories include the Rapture which is found in the Book of Revelation. According to this theory, the Rapture begins with "the saved" being taken up and off the Earth. In the movie "Left Behind", these individuals just disappear, leaving the unworthy behind. Once saved, Armageddon can begin in full force. A war between good and evil follows and finally Jesus, flying in on his cloud, will return to end the fighting. Associated with this theory (although not supported by fundamentalist Christians) is the belief that it is not Jesus who brings about the end of Armageddon, but aliens. It is these same aliens who transport the worthy off the planet and save them from Armageddon.

Additional end time theories include: the appearance of Planet-X (sometimes referred to as Niberu), solar winds, giant asteroids and even a magnetic poll shift. Each of these potential events could end life on this planet.

Switching theoretical sides, there are theories of a calmer and more transcendental nature. According to some, on December 21, 2012 our planet will enter into what is called the Galactic Alignment. This astronomical configuration is said to happen once every 26,000 years based upon the precession of the equinox. Due to this astrological configuration it has been said that our planet will be aligned with the center of the galaxy. This will cause our chakras (the energy centers within the body) to open, thus allowing the free flow of universal energy into our bodies.

Similar to this theory is that the beginning of a new calendar cycle will usher in a new age. It is often likened to the "Age of Aquarius" as a time of peace, love and understanding. This shift would not be instantaneous. Instead, changes to our consciousness and collective conscious would commence. This shift would lead to a new, better and harmonious life here on Earth. No one has identified how long this process would take, only that on December 21, it will have begun.

The final theory associated with 2012 is that of ascension. The Rapture describes saving individuals from an upcoming worldwide catastrophe. In this scenario, the person is present on Earth one minute and gone the next. Ascension theory is something like presented in the TV series "StarGate". The character Daniel Jackson ascends and becomes one with the Ancients. The concept of spiritual ascension is associated with a number of spiritual beliefs and practices. Through self transformation, we as humans would no longer need our physical bodies and will transcend into a higher plane of being. Proponents of this theory are unclear if ascension will happen December 21 or if it is the process of ascension will begin on that date. In any case, this one sounds pretty good to me.

The question I am most often asked when talking about 2012, is what will really happen to us. Based upon my research to date, this is what I have deduced. Starting bright and early on December 22, 2012 the sun will come up, we will rise from our slumber and we will begin a new grand and glorious day.

You might ask how I came to this conclusion? I am happy to share that information with you now.

Let's return to the Hopi Prophecies. According to their prophecies, it is the fulfillment of the identified events which will indicate the beginning of the Fifth World. Compelling as they are, like the prophecies of Nostradamus, we are left with the question... Are we making assumptions about their true meaning? What has been suggested as the fulfillment of the prophecies, is on face, value very persuasive but we will never know for sure.

There are also problems when you factor in the Hindu Yugas. The Kali Yuga is said to begin on the day Krishna died in 3100 BC. The 3100BC start date of the Kali Yuga does make you contemplate its connection with the dates given for this cycle in the Mayan Calendar. What many 2012 supporters do not tell you is that the Kali Yuga is identified as lasting for 432,000 years. If you subtract the number of years that have passed since the start of the Kali Yuga, we still have roughly 427,000 years to go until this Yuga ends - and the universe as we know it will disappear. The math does not add up to any time in 2012.

Over the centuries, prophecies derived from the Book of Revelation have been interpreted and re-interpreted to rationalize many of the difficult time periods we have encountered. Is the Book of Revelations talking about what is going on now? It could be. But it could also have been describing the emperor Nero who banished John, the author of Revelations, to Patmos. Over the years, this same text has been used to predict the end of the world numerous times.

Finally we come to the Mayan Calendar. The date of December 21, 2012 was determined by Sir J. Eric S. Thompson and is referred to as the Thompson Correlation. As you may recall, Thompson stated that the current Great Cycle commenced on August 13, 3114BC. This date has been generally accepted as the most likely start date of the cycle. However, Thompson is not the only one who has proposed a start date. If you add 1,872,000 days to some of the suggested alternative launch times, dates for the end of the Mayan Calendar have ranged from the year 1734 AD all the way through to the year 2532 AD.

As you can see, there really isn't anything that directly supports the December 21, 2012 date. It is really just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. The net effect has been that many of us are afraid of what may, or may not, happen on that date! If you are worried that the world is coming to an end, let it go. Take a deep breath and open yourself up to contemplating a bright future ahead. Before I go, I would like to ask each of you for one thing. When you open your eyes on the morning of December 22nd, think of me, this message and say thank you.

Fearmongering and Facts - 2012 Examined == By Micah Jordan Platinum Quality Author

It's always been my philosophy that the most rational approach to anything is to balance reason with readiness. So when the murmurs about 2012 began to grow into grumblings, and the grumblings grew into shouts, and the shouts grew into hysterical ranting, I figured it was about time to look into the matter and see if I couldn't find out what the facts on 2012 really were. Should we be worried? Should we stock up? And whose opinion should we trust? There are an awful lot of crisis-mongers out there, willing to pass along any terror-inducing hype as a means of parting you from your bucks. If there really IS anything we should know about December 21, 2012 that's significant to our safety or peace of mind, then it would be a shame to lose the message because we got too tired of listening to the tinfoil-hat-wearing New Age crap-peddlers.
So, what are the facts? 2012 does, after all, seem to present a unique confluence of multiple prophecies, events, predictions, mythologies, and cosmologies. It's arguable that no prior period in history has seen such a merging of so wild a variety of belief systems and prophecies. There's the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, and biblical prophecies of the End Times. The predictions of the I Ching, and Timewave Zero. The Sybil, Nostradamus, Isaac Newton, Edgar Cayce, and Mother Shipton all weigh in, among others. The Hopi have tossed a hat into the ring. Even science - or at least pseudoscience - gets a toe in the door, what with the statistics of the Bible code, the Web Bot Project, the Solar Maximum and threatening Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs), predictions of a possible geomagnetic reversal (incorrectly referred to as a "polar shift"), the Precession of the Equinoxes, and the potentially deadly Planet X flyby. What isn't debated is that there will be a rare galactic alignment on that day, one that only appears every 26,000 years or so, which in itself is enough to make even the skeptics pause for thought. As we finally, truly enter the Age of Aquarius, 2012 has become the byword for futurist phobias. But is it just Y2K on steroids?
There is simply too much out there on 2012 to get away with ignoring it completely. It's only a matter of time before the media latch onto it and hype the living hell out of the subject - the History Channel has certainly taken the lead there. But when you really dig in and read the literature and hit the blogs, trying to nail down the facts on 2012, you're pretty likely to end up both fascinated and befuddled, and even run the risk of joining the collective obsession and succumbing to the scare.
Well, I've read a good deal of the latest thinking on this topic, so I'll share some of what I've discovered.
Any research on 2012 has to start with the Mayan Long Count Calendar. The Mayans actually were (and are) brilliant mathematicians, astronomers, and time keepers. Their calendric system, which is based largely on astronomical observances, has a degree of accuracy and a depth of symbology that puts our Gregorian system to shame. Two thousand years ago, at a time when the majority of the world didn't question the idea that the world was flat and earth was the center of the universe, the Mayans came up with a cosmological view that could make astronomical predictions that were accurate to within mere seconds. No mean feat, to say the least. I certainly can't go into even a fraction of detail about this fascinating topic in this short article, but I encourage you to read more about it, as it's one of the most interesting angles to the whole 2012 topic.
But possibly the most interesting thing is that the Mayan faith and mythology, their systems for keeping time, and even their design and hieroglyphs, are very like those of other traditional civilizations, such as the Egyptians, with whom they were unlikely to have had contact. This odd synchronicity becomes tough to explain, until you consider the one thing they did have in common - the sky. Is it really possible that multiple cultures and civilizations, divided by vast distances in time and geography, could divine similar meaning and draw the same conclusions from the same astronomical observances? And if so, does this lend greater credibility to their philosophy of time and how it is to unfold? Anthropologists attempt to answer this question, with varying degrees of success.
This is where the confusion comes in. What were the Mayans trying to tell us? Are we facing imminent disaster, or merely a transition from one age to the next?
Well, here's one of the elusive "facts" of 2012: the Mayan long count calendar does end on the winter solstice - December 21, 2012 - and that date does coincide with the Precessional transfer from the age of Pisces to the age of Aquarius, an event that only occurs about every 26,000 years. Here's what that means:
In our solar system, the Sun and the planets share roughly the same plane of orbit, known as the plane of the ecliptic. From our perspective here on Earth, the Zodiacal constellations move along or near the ecliptic, and over a span of time, appear to recede counterclockwise by one degree every 72 years. This movement is attributed to a tiny wobble in the Earth's axis as it rotates. The result is that, approximately every 2,160 years, the constellation visible early on the morning of the spring equinox changes. In Western astrological traditions, this signals the end of one astrological age (currently the Age of Pisces) and the beginning of another (Age of Aquarius). Over the course of 26,000 years, the precession of the equinoxes makes one full circuit around the ecliptic.
Just as the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere is currently in the constellation of Pisces, so the winter solstice is currently in the constellation of Sagittarius, which happens to be the constellation intersected by the galactic equator. Every year for the last 1000 years or so, on the winter solstice, the Earth, Sun and the galactic equator come into alignment, and every year, precession pushes the Sun's position a little way further through the Milky Way's band.
New Age proponents of the galactic alignment hypothesis argue that, just as astrology uses the positions of stars and planets to make claims of future events, the Mayans plotted their calendars with the objective of preparing for significant world events. However, the alignment in question is not exclusive to 2012 but takes place over a 36-year period, corresponding to the diameter of the Sun, with the most precise convergence having already occurred in 1998.
So what do we make of that? Does every claim for the significance of 2012 come as a kernel of truth, wrapped in a coating of hysterical hype? Let's explore a little further.
Ah, Nostradamus. This much-quoted 16th century physician and prognosticator with his cryptic quatrains has been the most respected seer in history. A number of his quatrains are believed by scholars of prophecy to pertain to our time, and warn of dire events. It's estimated that about 50% of his prophecies have come true. While this passes in some circles as a staggeringly huge number of hits, it's worth keeping in mind that it's an equal number of misses, too...and even the hits are open to interpretation. Never, anywhere, does he specifically mention the year 2012. In fact, he goes on to claim that his visions extend as far as the 38th century, so apparently humanity doesn't meet its gory end any time soon after all. And with no concrete dates to point to, we are forced to wait and see - in retrospect - whether or not Nostradamus had any real insight into current events.
Surely there must be some biblical passages that dovetail with the Mayan prediction of the end of days. Fundamentalist Christians are loud in their warnings that the rapture is imminent and those who miss it are in for a crapload of trouble. But wait - many doomsday dates predicted by theologians have come and gone, leaving their followers wondering what "didn't" hit them. And the bible itself assures us that nobody, not even Jesus or the angels, knows the exact date that anything is going to go down. That's a secret God is keeping to himself, we're told. Did He change His mind and decide to leak the info after all?
Well then, isn't there a rogue star out there - Nibiru, or Planet X - that's due to make a pole-reversing, 1,000-foot wave-creating flyby of the earth? Both sides of THAT argument lay their case in front of the public, and we are free to take an open-minded look at it. As for Nibiru, latest thinking on that subject - at least by astronomers, who are in some position to know - is that it doesn't even exist, much less plan to drop by - or drop on us - in 2012. According to them, Nibiru=fake. End of story. As expected, detractors abound.
What about the aliens, the ones that seeded humanity and keep coming back to steal cow parts and human fetuses? Those who claim to be in contact with these extraterrestrials are supposedly being assured that they will finally make their landing on the White House lawn on December 21, 2012. Unfortunately, we're forced to take the word of the contactees, with no way of verifying the information for ourselves. And why these contactees consider beings who behave the way these ETs apparently do as "space brothers" who should be welcomed with open arms is beyond me, but that's a discussion for another article!
Finally, and most encouraging of all, is the idea that - far from disaster and ruin - the new age is going to bring enlightenment and a sorely-needed raising of the human consciousness to a higher and more spiritual level of existence. This will include everyone being able to engage in telepathy, levitation, and the ability to speak with the angels. Great as this sounds, again - best to examine whatever passes for evidence that this is what's going to happen.
It seems to me that the information (or misinformation, as the case may be) that is making the rounds is being served up to the public as if it were a sort of stew...a particularly inedible one. You might love peanut butter, peach ice cream, asparagus, chocolate sauce, and liverwurst. But if you jam them all in a blender and try to swallow the result, how yummy would it be? Personally, I'd rather eat the contents of my cat's litter box. While it might seem logical to take a lot of really good-sounding ideas, each worthy of consideration on their own, and simmer them all together in a single pot for a tasty combo of intellectual flavors, the recipe really doesn't work. And that's what's happened with 2012. So many favorite non-secular ideologies, traditional (and poorly accepted) mythologies and mysteries, conspiracy theories, belief systems, fears, pseudo-scientific conclusions, and just plain wishful thinking, all being tossed into the 2012 crock-pot. The true importance of this date, assuming there is one, is in danger of being utterly lost in the stew. Every doomsday scenario ever concocted, brilliant or barmy, is being forcibly linked to this single date.
It's weird, but it seems that every generation since the beginning of all those biblical begats has looked forward to the world ending during their own time. Apparently we all understand at a deep and depressing level just how far off course we've drifted, spiritually and emotionally. We are desperate for change, even if it means a gigantic dieback of humanity itself. And if there's any truth to the theory that, by our concentrated thoughts and intentions, we create our own reality, then we have some reason to be frightened for this particular generation. There's a traditional zen proverb that sums it up: That which you are looking for, is always looking for you. There's an emergent awareness of this possibility that events can be influenced by a collective will. It's a phenomenon known as "collective manifestation." In brief, it suggests that the more people believe a thing, the more influence they will have - consciously or unconsciously - in bringing it about. If this is true, then we are on track for SOMETHING significant to happen in 2012, simply because we decided amongst ourselves that we really, really wanted it to.
So it behooves us to do two things: make very sure that the world we create is infinitely better than the one we're discarding, and prepare ourselves as much as possible for whatever might actually happen. Better to build the shelter before the storm hits.
While it's difficult to prepare for something we can't quite imagine, it's smart to at least make some effort to keep ourselves and our families safe in the event of an emergency or catastrophe. Whatever 2012 brings, the fact remains that right now, there are increasing incidents of natural disasters and - even more tragically - the real possibility of terrorist attacks that must be dealt with. Even if it turns out that 2012 is another over-hyped non-event like Y2K, at least we can feel that we took reasonable precautions against the worst, and if the worst never happened, our efforts won't have been in vain, should we become victims of the all-too-real challenges of life in the 21st century. 2012 Global Solutions presents a sampling of the most popular scenarios for this upcoming date, along with the best books, DVDs and products to help you understand and prepare for what might be coming.

The Mayan Calendar End Times 2012 Prophecy - Is This Just Another Y2K Scare?== By Lisa Sliwa Platinum Quality Author

If you've done any surfing around the web lately, you have most likely noticed that there is a lot of hoopla surrounding Mayan calendar end times 2012. The Mayan Long Count Calendar is going to end on December 21, 2012, bringing the end of the world as we know it. At first glance this sounds a bit like the Y2K alarm ten years ago - there was a lot of concern about the effect on quality of life but it turned out to be a lot of fuss about an event barely worth notice.
There are differences. The Y2K scare concerned a man-made computer glitch. Early programmers had not thought far enough ahead to adjust their systems' internal clocks in advance. It was feared that everything run by computers would crash at the turn of the century when those clocks ran out, but this was easily fixed. The events described here all took place within a fifty year period, truly a "blink of the eye" in the course of time.
The Mayan calendar end times 2012 prophecy was written thousands of years ago and is supported by almost every major and minor religion, many indigenous peoples, many cultures, and even modern science. Most prophecies from these sources were written without any knowledge of the claims of the others. All provide evidence of a belief that the world as we know it will end in 2012. None contradicts the prophecy contained in the Mayan calendar end times 2012 prophecy.
All this certainly does give one pause. That so many divergent groups, across so many years and so scattered across the face of the earth all settled on the same date as a date of significance must be more than simple coincidence. December 21, 2012 will most likely have a much farther reaching effect than Y2K.
Although no one knows for certain if the world will end in less than 2 years, Mayan calendar end times 2012 can not be simply discounted in the face of all who claim it to be true. Knowledge is power.
